Position Summary
Perform a limited variety of highly repetitive duties necessary to load secure steel rail spike products into railroad gondola cars, boxcars or truck trailers for shipment to customer location. On occasion, operate forklift to service production lines and to facilitate the transfer of finished product to temporary storage locations or dock loading platform and perform other material handling duties necessary to maintain efficient material transfer, loading or shipping operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operate forklift or pendant crane to unload incoming steel and machine shop supplies, pallets, empty kegs, and steel banding strips.
2. Check and verify steel heat and bundle numbers, weight and carbon content as indicated on shipping invoice; check off item or
indicate shortages and forward to office personnel for processing.
3. Assist on production line as relief person, as needed.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Thorough knowledge forklift operations and pendant crane equipment.
2. Ability to operate the above machinery in a safe and efficient manner at all times.
3. Ability to work both independently and as a part of team.
4. Must be able to lift and/or move a minimum of 55 pounds on a regular basis
Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent
2. A minimum of 1 or more year(s) experience as a material handler, machine operator or previous rebar fabrication experience.
3. Previous experience in similar role preferred.
4. Preference given to individuals that have been performing such functions on an interim basis and have demonstrated the experience, quality and commitment described above.
5. Must present a dependable attendance history.
6. Must demonstrate a commitment to safety and LEAN initiative (5S) systems.
7. Must demonstrate compliance with Company policy not having received formal corrective action within the last 6 month period.
Physical Demands
Light to Heavy. Must be able to lift 55 lbs to pick up truck bed height on a regular basis. Must be able to stand, sit, grip, pull, stoop, kneel, crouch and walk for extended periods.
Normal Work Schedule
Typically five (5) day work week with work scheduled on weekends and before/after normal business hours as necessary.
Work Environment
Production facility is an outdoor environment. As such, this position includes prolonged work in non-heated or non-air conditioned environments.
Personal Protective Equipment
Safety shoes, hard hats, hearing and eye protection must be worn at all times. Additional personal protective equipment as required.
